
Purpose
The 4-hour requalification course is an annual requirement for holders of the Florida
Class G Statewide Firearm License. It ensures armed security officers maintain firearm proficiency and stay current on firearm laws.
Course Components
1. Firearm Law Review
o Refresher on Florida statutes concerning firearms, use of force, and legal responsibilities.
o Updates on any changes to state or federal firearms laws.
2. Firearm Safety
o Review of safe firearm handling, storage, and transport procedures.
o Emphasis on accident prevention and responsible firearm use.
3. Marksmanship and Range Qualification
o Practical live-fire exercises under the supervision of a licensed Class K
instructor
o Officers must demonstrate proficiency with the type of handgun carried on duty.
o Qualification Course: Typically requires shooting a passing score at various distances and positions as prescribed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).
4. Written and/or Oral Assessment
o Some instructors may include a brief written or oral knowledge check.
Important Details
Instructor: Must be conducted by a licensed Class K firearms instructor.
Documentation: Passing the course is documented with a Certificate of Firearms Proficiency (Form FDACS-16005), which must be submitted to FDACS.
Frequency: Must be completed every year to maintain the Class G license in good standing.
Non-Compliance: Failure to requalify annually can result in suspension or revocation of the Class G license.
